how to use - portamee baby carrier

PortaMEe Baby Carrier Diagram

Step 1: Find the best position

We have designed the PortaMEe™ baby carrier with comfort being the first priority. Adults are all different sizes, as are babies. Therefore there are two ways of wearing our baby carrier.
Option A: For larger babies (18 lbs and up) and/or adults over 5’4”
  • Turn the baby carrier seat so that the leather trim FACES DOWN (see Figure A).
Option B: For smaller babies (under 18 lbs) and/or adults under 5’4”
  • Turn the carrier seat so that the leather trim FACES UP (see Figure B).
  • The waistband’s outer nylon material should face your hip.
(This shortens the carrier by creating a hammock-like “sling.”)

portaMEe™ baby carrier can be worn on either the left or right hip.
Simply slide the carrier seat across the center buckle.

Step 2: Buckle the Waist

  • Buckle the nylon waist belt at your belly button (see Figure C). The belt should always be worn on your waist, not your hips.
  • Make sure the lumbar support sits at the center of your back (see Figure D).
  • The waist belt should be snug. If you can slip your fingers between the belt and your body, the belt needs to be tightened.

It is important that the waist belt on the baby carrier be snug and secure. This will relieve pressure on your neck and shoulders.

Step 3: Pre-fit the Shoulder Strap

  • Do not unbuckle the shoulder strap. Slip it over your head and place it on the shoulder
opposite the seat. Your arm should lie outside the attached wallet.
  • Center the shoulder pad using the adjusters (figure E).
  • Leave a little room in for your child.

There are two shoulder adjusters: front and back. Use both to find your comfort zone.

Step 4: Lift Child into the Baby Carrier

  • With the baby’s legs straddling your hip, slide him/her into the carrier so that he/she is facing you (see Figure F). WARNING: The baby’s legs should never be together. Each leg must straddle your hip.
  • Make sure the baby is centered in the seat.
  • For added security, buckle the safety belt.

Make sure the baby’s bottom is higher than your hip.

Step 5: Final Adjustments

  • Once inside, lift the baby from his/her bottom to create slack in the shoulder strap (see Figure G). This will enable you to tighten the strap and keep the baby high and close.
  • Slip excess shoulder strapping into the winged side pockets.
  • For added closeness and security, pull the drawstring cord.

taking the baby out of the carrier

  • When you’re ready to remove the baby from the carrier, always sit down first. Make sure you are supporting the baby under his/her bottom before loosening or opening any buckles.

    Safety Tip:
  • To prevent the baby from falling, always remain in a seated position when removing him/her from the carrier.
